A long time native of Charleston South Carolina,

Pete Rock was raised on the Isle of Palms and

currently lives in Mt. Pleasant. He spent his early years

working in the construction industry; eventually specializing

in custom cabinetry and furniture.

Studying both contemporary and traditional furniture

design elements, He keeps his designs simple with clean lines,

relying on balance and proportion. The first Sweet Grass table

was inspired by his wife Sarah.  She commissioned a local artist, Adeline Mazack, to craft a round, flat Sweet Grass basket to serve as the center piece for the table.  Using Sapele Mahogany, which is a large tree native to tropical Africa, seemed not only appropriate with the Sweet Grass but

more environmentally sustainable wood than traditional

over forested hard woods.   Living on the Gullah Geechee

Cultural Heritage Corridor, he involves many of the local

roadside artists in his craft....
